Neva Masquerade cats are smart, curious and bold cats. They have a good memory, they respond to words and their names. They are very communicative, gentle and strongly associated with the cat owner. He accompanies him in all household activities. Always willing to play, climb and jump, they need a high-comfort environment. For this reason, owners of Neva cats should provide them with a large scratching opportunity and numerous hiding places. Neva cats adjust their activity to the conditions at home. They like children and patiently endure their affection. The Neva cat is a hypoallergenic race, due to the lower content of Fel-d1 protein in the saliva, what is responsible for allergic reactions.
Neva cats usually do not cause problems with upbringing, they learn quickly discipline and order. They are consistent and non-conflict, which is why they perform well in a large group of cats. If they do not have animal company, they should not stay too long without the owners' care, because they do not like loneliness.

Health and care:
This is one of the healthier breeds, resistant to low temperatures. They rarely have genetic diseases. Breeding does not cause much trouble. They are happy to eat dry food and wet food. The fur of a Neva cat does not require any special treatment, it is enough to comb the undercoat once a week.

Optionally with the addition of (s) silver-silver or (y) gold-gold, with brindle (tabby) or without (solid), all these varieties are allowed with white.
Origin:
The Neva Masquerade cat breed comes from Russia. It is a variation of the Siberian cat with the original color of Siamese cats. The legend tells that the first cats with markings appeared in and around St. Petersburg in the 17th century.
It was the result of spontaneous crossings of Siberian cats with Siamese cats. The name of the breed comes from the Neva river, which flows through St. Petersburg and from the sumptuous masked balls, which were organized by the Russian rulers at that time.
The breeding program for these cats was initiated in Russia at the end of the 1960s, and in 1990 the Soviet Feline Federation (SFF) approved the first official standard of the Siberian breed and its color point variant under the name “Newskaja Maskardnaja”.
In 2009, the world organization FIFe initially recognized Neva as a separate sister breed of Siberian cats and marked them with the NEM code.
